Sara McClelland, Clincal Intern (she/her)

Therapy Intern | Person-Centered & Trauma-Informed Care

Lawrence, KS
Sara believes deeply that all people deserve support, understanding, and compassion. She approaches therapy as a process of walking alongside clients as they reconnect with their joy and strength, learn to celebrate what makes them unique, and recognize the wisdom they already carry within themselves. Sara offers a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences and move toward healing, acceptance, and greater ease.
Sara has experience supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and difficult life experiences that may feel limiting or overwhelming. Her therapeutic approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, drawing from attachment theory, mindfulness practices, and neurobiological understanding. She is grounded in a holistic view of healing that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and she thoughtfully supports clients in widening perspective and exploring how relationships, communities, and broader systems shape our lives.
Outside of the therapy space, Sara is a mom who enjoys spending time in nature, curling up with a good book, and finding moments of laughter and connection each day. These grounding influences inform the warmth and presence she brings into her work with clients.
Sara is currently working toward a Master of Science in Counseling at Prescott College in Arizona and is also pursuing certification in Expressive Arts Therapy. She welcomes curiosity and conversation about expressive arts approaches and how creativity can support healing. Sara is grateful to be clinically supervised by Anissa Pfannenstiel, LSCSW, and is committed to growing as a thoughtful, compassionate clinician. She offers pro-bono/reduced rates as an intern with MBHC.
